Ruth Saltman

Ruth Saltzman

October 30, 2008 Ruth R. Saltman, 92, of Dewitt, passed away at Menorah Park after an extended illness. Ruthie was born in New London, CT, eight minutes after her identical twin sister, Bea.

They both graduated from Williams Institute in New London and then matriculated at Connecticut College for Women. They both moved to NYC, where Ruth took a job at the New York Post, becoming asssistant to the Post's general manager.

In 1950 Ruth and her late husband, Mort, moved to Downey, CA, where they were active in civic affairs and their synagogue. Ruth was a secretary in the Downey city government, ultimately becoming secretary to the mayor and city council. In 2001 she moved east to reside at The Oaks at Menorah Park. She quickly began to put down new roots and make many new friends.

She will be remembered for her devotion to, and pride of, her family, her charm, wit and her hearty sense of humor. She was predeceased by Morton in 1983 and by her sisters Ida, Anne and Bea. Surviving are her sons, Dr. Roger Saltman of Cazenovia and Scott Saltman of Downey, CA; daughter-in-law Anne Saltman; her grandchildren, Joshua, Adam, Jonathan, David and Rebecca; and her niece, Lynn Torres.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 2, at Sisskind Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, immediately prior to the service, at the funeral chapel, 3175 East Genesee St., Syracuse, NY. Burial will be in Mt.
