In Memory Of
Erwin Stern

Erwin M. Stern, 88, of North Syracuse, died August 28, 2008, at Menorah Park. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 8, 1919, and lived in the Syracuse area since 1951.

Mr. Stern graduated from Clarkson University in 1941, with a bachelor's degree in business administration and obtained a Master of Business Administration in 1963 from Syracuse University. Mr. Stern was employed at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company from 1951 until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Stern held the position of assistant controller, where he supervised general accounting matters, including financial and cost accounting. His work in the budget and financial planning systems brought him into close contact with every department of the Bristol organization, including Bristol's Montreal and Puerto Rico plants.

Mr. Stern was a member of the Eastwood-East Syracuse Kiwanis Club for over 50 years. He held several offices in the club, including president, vice president and board of directors member. Mr. Stern served the club and community through the years by participating in fundraisers and service projects, such as Toys for Tots and Kamp Kiwanis. In 2005 at a Kiwanis Ontario Division Council Meeting, Mr. Stern received one of the highest awards, the Anton J. Kaiser award for excellence in service. Mr. Stern's strong sense of community service also carried over to his participation on the board of directors for the Pitcher Hill Housing Community.

Mr. Stern was a member of May Memorial Unitarian Universalist Society for over 40 years. He enjoyed fellowship with his many friends at May Memorial. Mr. Stern also enjoyed hobbies such as sailing and golf. He had been a member of the Midlakes Sailing Club and spent delightful times sailing with friends and family on Skaneateles Lake.

Mr. Stern is survived by his lovely wife, Helen E. Stern; daughter, Pamela M. Stern of Manlius, New York; and nephews and nieces. Mr. Stern and his wife were college sweethearts, and their union of 67 years was filled with love, respect and devotion. A memorial service will be held at May Memorial Unitarian Universalist Society, 3800 East Genesee Street, Syracuse, New York. The service will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2008, at 3:30 p.m.

Contributions in memory of Erwin M. Stern may be made to the Eastwood-East Syracuse Kiwanis Club, Post Office Box 655, East Syracuse, New York 13057. Contributions will go toward Kamp Kiwanis.
